I was going to upvote until I got to "There's no security risk at all in your public IP address being known to anyone". That it hugely incorrect: term security covers multiple things (like e.g. confidentiality, integrity and availability). While bigger address space helps with many of them, it is especially important for availability; e.g. targeted attacks (which probably everyone in online gaming community is aware of), it makes a huge difference whether attacker is trying to DDoS 1 IPv4 address (easy), or 2^32 of them (impossible).
